Kindness Project

The Kindness Project-
No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted. -Aesop

1. I invite you to accept the challenge to accomplish acts of kindness with your families and friends until the end of the school year. Kindness acts can be as simple as picking up your toys or clothes without parents asking... and as big as participating in a community or church service project.

2. Share your acts of kindness in the comments section of this post by clicking on the green comments link. You may also comment on others' posts to show appreciation, ask questions, give more ideas.

3. The project will go on until the end of the school year (and hopefully throughout your life) but our 4th grade class will have a Kindness Celebration Day on June 4, 2015. In our Class Meeting, we will review acts of kindness done or observed for the past months and celebrate!

Making the world a better place --- one person at a time.

The project details:
Students plan a project where they “Think of an idea to change our world  (to spread kindness) and put it into action”.
The following is our plan for the project- in our classroom.
Examples and videos to share for ideas:

    • Students started by brainstorming possible projects- they can be school related or carry over outside of school hours. They do need to pick something that is ongoing and big enough to see results.
-  Including someone for the daily kickball game
-  Inviting a student to eat lunch together
-  Taking out your elderly neighbors trash cans each week

-  Smiling at people you pass by
  • Students will keep blogging entries about the progress they are making with their project- what they are noticing, feedback they are getting from others, and how it is affecting them.
  • At the end of their project, students will create a way to share their project with others.

    2. I agree! Any ideas other than the ones we have already talked about?

    3. One other suggestion is to send an email or card to someone you haven't contacted in a while but who means a lot to you. For example, I might email my kindergarten teacher who I haven't talked to since I was in second grade. Who would you write to if you did this?

      Delete
    4. Oh, I love that idea of sending emails to someone you haven't contacted in a while, LMo12! I have an idea who I would send it to, and #1 on my list is my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Bowser, even though she is in our school, so maybe the people in our class that had her (if they want to), can come as a group and maybe send some nice cards to her. Also, this could happen with other classes that some of us were in. Or, for the new students, they could send cards to our specialists, science, music, P.E. teachers. What are some "nice and sweet words" would you send to staff or teachers?

    5. I'm glad you like the idea! I think I would tell them (if I emailed my kindergarten teacher) how much they made an impact on my life and what they taught me that stuck with me. I think that would make her feel good to know she effected my life! What kinds of things would you say?

      Delete
    6. Yeah, definitely! I would say how much she impacted me on my life, and how her funny humor will always stick with me.

    9. I think it would be nice too! She was my teacher also and I would be happy to join!

  10. I was trying to work on volunteering at an animal shelter! Does anyone else want to with me? There is also a kitchen where people who don't have a lot of money can get free meals! Does anyone want to try to volunteer for either of those? I think the cards to soldiers and notes around school are also great ideas!
